Jennifer Smith has created a body of work that encapsulates the physical and mental damage caused by violence against women. By creating life-size installations of women, Jennifer hopes to encourage a sense of affinity with the audience. Violence against women leaves physical and emotional scars which often leave the victims demonised by themselves and their peers. By creating work that is feminine yet disturbing allows us to associate personally with the possibilities that are an ever present threat to women in contemporary society.
Women of any age, culture and class are possible victims and through art, we can encourage conversation. Various processes of this work have been amalgamated from personal experience of domestic violence and an emotive response to the female form.
